Nominees sought for Schaumburg Volunteer of the Year

It's that time of year again - time to acknowledge the unsung heroes without whose efforts Schaumburg just wouldn't be the strong community that it is.

Nominations will be accepted through March 25 for the village's Volunteer of the Year Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 9. The event takes place at Chandler's, 401 N. Roselle Road.

Awards will be given in three categories: Adult Individual Volunteer, Youth Individual Volunteer and Volunteer Organization of the Year.

All nominees and their nominators are welcome at the luncheon.

Last year's keynote speaker was wounded soldier and Rolling Meadows native Bryan Anderson, who's dedicated himself to philanthropic causes as well as becoming an in-demand actor in Hollywood. He currently can be seen in the Oscar-nominated film, "American Sniper."

This year's speaker is Chris Smith, the executive director of HandsOn Suburban Chicago, a nonprofit which helps inspire and organize volunteers to build vibrant and prosperous communities.
