Boys basketball: Week 8 MVP

Willowbrook sophomore guard Alonzo Verge, Jr. has earned Daily Herald boys basketball MVP honors for his recent basketball performances.

Alonzo Verge Jr., Willowbrook: The 6-foot-3 sophomore guard exploded for 115 points in four games as the Warriors extended their winning streak to eight straight. Verge broke program records with 45 points and eight 3-pointers against Montini, and then scored 35 points and hit a game-winning 3-pointer to beat Proviso East.

Collin Dekorsi, Buffalo Grove: A 5-foot-8 sophomore, Dekorsi showed he belonged with the big boys in a 62-59 overtime victory against Prospect in Mid-Suburban East play. Dekorsi finished with a career-high 30 points, which included a pair of fourth-quarter 3s along with 4 free throws in the overtime.

Nick Duffy, St. Edward: This 6-foot-4 senior was a major contributor in a pair of hard-fought road wins for St. Edward (17-3). The senior led the Green Wave with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks in a 54-52 double-overtime victory at Ridgewood, highlighted by his length-of-the-court drive for the game-winning layup with time running out. Jake Falish, Warren: The senior guard focused on baseball last winter. He's back to showing off his ability to hit shots in basketball this winter. One of the county's top shooters, he poured in a season-high 31 points, which included nine 3-pointers, in a 70-67 loss to Zion-Benton.

Evan Schuetz, Aurora Central Catholic: The 6-foot-1 junior attacked the basket to score 46 points in a pair of wins.
