Judge upholds 122-year prison sentence in Romeoville slaying

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) - A judge has upheld a 122-year prison term for a man who was sentenced last year for a Romeoville shooting that left his 15-year-old ex-girlfriend dead and her mother wounded.

The (Joliet) Herald-News reports (http://bit.ly/1CgbyEq ) Will County Judge Daniel Rozak on Wednesday denied a request by the attorney for 24-year-old Erick Maya to reduce the sentence imposed last October by another judge. Rozak rejected the argument that the judge's personal feelings for Maya influenced his decision to impose the 122-year sentence.

Rozak said he found "no abuse of discretion" by the other judge.

Maya was convicted by a jury of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and other charges in the February 2014 shootings of Briana Valle and her mother, Alicia Guerrero.
