Des Plaines "emergency" blood drive set for Monday

An "emergency" blood drive will be held Monday at Des Plaines city hall due to reportedly low levels at blood banks, officials said.

The blood drive is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the first floor conference room of city hall, 1420 Miner St. Appointments can be made at lifesource.org and (877) 543-3768, though walk-ins are also welcome.

Blood supplies in the Chicago area declined after schools and businesses were closed due to cold temperatures; many of those locations subsequently had to cancel scheduled blood drives, according to LifeSource Blood Services.
