Mount Prospect teen faces gun charge

Mount Prospect police have arrested a 17-year-old admitted gang member on weapon charges, authorities said.

The teen was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. He is not being named because he is being charged as a juvenile,

About 1 a.m. Sunday, an officer noticed two men behaving suspiciously in the area of Cottonwood Lane and Linneman Road, said Mount Prospect officer Greg Sill.

The officer recognized the 17-year-old juvenile and tried to contact him, but the two men ran away. Police located the teen a short time later in the vicinity of Cottonwood Lane and Busse Road.

Officers recovered a semiautomatic handgun from the teen's pocket. Sill said it had not been fired.
