St. Charles students get a kick out of competition

National Catholic Schools Week may have kicked off Monday, but kindergartners at St. Patrick Catholic School in St. Charles held their own literal kickoff event Wednesday.

The kids had a contest to see who could kick off their shoes the farthest. It was one of a number of events this week that included relay games, a recycled fashion show and a scheduled Friday volleyball game pitting eighth-grade students against the faculty.

The school's theme was teaching children to care for others through service. Students have been collecting urgent needs items for local shelters Hesed House, Lazarus House and Hope Haven.
