North Central setting CCIW records

With the regular season in its final stretch, the North Central women's basketball team has a chance to make history.

Offensive records are falling left and right each time the Cardinals take the floor. By the end of the season, they should own almost every scoring total record in CCIW history.

At 17-1 (6-1 in the CCIW), North Central has a simple formula for beating its opponents. Run them out of the gym. Coach Michelle Roof's team goes at a break-neck pace and is always looking for the quick bucket. The conference record for points-per-game average is 88.1. The Cardinals have been held below that only four games so far. At this pace they will break the record by almost 10 points.

However, that will just be another record to add to the list. They have already made more 3-pointers, free throws and field goals than any other team in CCIW history. They also have set the rebounding record, and it's not even close.

Individually, senior Tess Godhardt has led the way. The versatile guard is on pace to break both the field goals and total points record in conference.

This all comes with seven games left on the schedule.

North Central undoubtedly has bigger things on its agenda than setting scoring records. It is tied for first place with the only team to beat it this year. The rematch between North Central and Wheaton College will be in Naperville this time. The Cardinals host Wheaton on Saturday with the winner in control of their own conference destiny.

Elmhurst College:

The Bluejays men's basketball team may be the surprise team of the CCIW. With a rotation made up of almost entirely juniors and sophomores, the young team is fighting for first place with some of the best teams in the country.

The Bluejays will have what could be the biggest game of their season on Wednesday. Elmhurst will host the No. 3 team in the nation, Augustana, which has already beaten them once. If they can pull the upset, they would have at least a split with each top four CCIW teams.

Elmhurst is coming off of a 10-day stretch with three conference wins, including wins against nationally ranked Illinois Wesleyan and at North Central.

In their first game against Augustana, the Bluejays were narrowly defeated. Elmhurst lost 70-68 and had a chance to win in the final minute.
