Prosecutor clears Council Bluffs officer in shooting

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) - Prosecutors have cleared a Council Bluffs officer who opened fire at a man who police say tried to run down the officer and another.

The Daily Nonpareil reports (http://bit.ly/18oImP6 ) that Pottawattamie County Attorney Matt Wilber said Monday that Officer Jarrod Poore used justified force on Dec. 23.

The officers had approached a parked Corvette that had been reported as stolen. They say the driver accelerated toward them and struck an unmarked police vehicle, but neither officer was injured. A chase ensued across the Missouri River into Omaha, Nebraska, and 33-year-old Jesse Wilkinson soon was arrested. He was treated for gunshot wounds.

Wilber says Wilkinson faces several charges. Online court records don't list the name of his attorney.
