Woman faces charges in double-fatal crash in Sanilac County
SANDUSKY, Mich. (AP) - A woman who told authorities that she was a passenger during a double-fatal rollover crash in Sanilac County has been charged as the driver.
The Sanilac County sheriff's department says deputies arrested 21-year-old Laken Williams of Lexington on Monday. She was injured in the crash and is charged with reckless driving causing death; making a false report of a felony; and lying to an officer.
The District Court says Williams doesn't have a lawyer on record Tuesday. She's jailed on $50,000 bond. Her next court hearing is Feb. 3.
The late-night Oct. 28 crash in Lexington Township killed 17-year-old Danielle Torrez of Croswell and 18-year-old Dakota Moore of Applegate. Investigators say the vehicle may have been going more than 100 mph before the crash about 70 miles north of Detroit.
