Twin drug informant tells Chicago judge he's 'ashamed'

CHICAGO (AP) - One of a pair of twin brothers sentenced to 14 years in prison for running a drug ring told a Chicago federal judge he's ashamed, embarrassed and regretful.

Margarito Flores and his brother, Pedro Flores, received drastically reduced sentences on Tuesday for cooperating against Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman and other Mexican cartel leaders. With credit for the time served awaiting sentencing and for good behavior, the brothers could be out in as little as six years.

Pedro Flores also spoke, thanking federal prosecutors for giving him the "opportunity not to spend my life in prison." Margarito Flores told the judge "there is no excuse."

Judge Ruben Castillo told the brothers even though they didn't receive life sentences they would have to look over their shoulders for the rest of their lives.
