Kirk Players hosts treasure hunt as its first fundraiser

Kirk Players hosts its first fundraiser, "The Golden Quest - A Kirk Player Treasure Hunt," Saturday, April 18.

"After considering several different ways to rev up community excitement and involvement and showcase Kirk Players' talents, a very dear Kirk Player friend suggested the treasure hunt," said Gretchen Grassl, Kirk Players' chairwoman for the fundraiser.

"We went with it, thinking it would be a great community team-builder with a lot of action-packed fun. The cooperation and positive spirit we have felt since we announced the event has been overwhelming."

Teams of four to five people will participate in various physical and mental challenges that will lead to many locations in the Lake County area. The goal is to be the first team to solve the clues and conquer the quest. Many of the zany and theatrical talents of Kirk Players and friends will be on display during the journey.

The "Golden Quest" kicks off at 5 p.m. from Kirk of the Lakes Church in Mundelein. After the hunt, there will be a gala reception at Del Webb Grand Dominion with wine, beer, soft drinks, appetizers and desserts donated by local merchants, Kirk Players' advertisers and friends.

The troupe will provide prizes and opportunities to share tall stories of participants' experiences in the Golden Quest.

"This organization touches people," said Sheila Bourque, president of Kirk Players. "Whether a child performing in their first play, a high school senior winning financial support to study performing arts, or an adult taking a summer course to pursue their lifelong dream of being involved in stagecraft, this organization is committed to providing those services and resources. And we're committed to carrying on well beyond 50 years. Hopefully, our fundraiser will help to ensure that."
