Quincy's historical society holds open house at museum site

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - A historical society in western Illinois has offered the public a peek of its new plans for a history museum.

The Quincy Herald-Whig reports (http://bit.ly/1EFhwN8 ) the Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County held an open house Friday at the former Quincy Public Library. The building last housed the Gardner Museum of Architecture and Design but it's been closed since March 2012. The society's board last fall decided to bring the building back to life as a history museum for Quincy and the surrounding areas.

The structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It served as a library until 1974.

Historical society members say plans are being made for an exhibit showing Quincy's connection to 1800's Mormon history. Various exhibits are planned throughout the museum.
