Indiana man gets 30 years for fatally stabbing man last May

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - A northeastern Indiana man who fatally stabbed another man during a dispute over a stolen credit card has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

An Allen County judge sentenced 57-year-old David Cocklin on Friday after Cocklin pleaded guilty to one count of voluntary manslaughter in the May 2014 killing of 30-year-old Raynell C. White.

The Journal Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1ydxVCK ) Cocklin confronted White outside a gas station about a stolen credit card. He then walked to his truck, got a knife and fatally stabbed White in the chest.

A forensic psychologist testified during Friday's hearing that Cocklin suffers from mental illness and is bipolar. The psychologist said that while Cocklin had been treated and was prescribed medication, he quit taking that medication because he began to feel better.
