Strong winds, snow early Sunday
Sunday's forecast includes snow and wind throughout the suburbs combined with dropping temperatures, meteorologists said.
Despite the predictions, the event is expected to be mild - with snow beginning around 5 a.m. and totaling possibly an inch near Wisconsin or as many as 4 inches farther south in Naperville, meteorologists from the National Weather Service said.
"It's not shaping up to be significant," said Ricky Castro, meteorologist.
The day will likely begin with temperatures around freezing. As winds pick up throughout the morning with expected gusts of up to 35 mph, temperatures will slowly drop, Castro said.
The peak intensity of the storm is expected to blow through mid- to late-morning and could create minor visibility issues with blowing snow in open areas, he said.
"The whole area is fair game to get strong winds throughout the day," Castro said. "So it'll be a windy cold day and the worst of it will be mid- to late- morning and then things will taper off. The snow will probably end in a lot of spots by early afternoon."
