Shelving golf course is good starting point
As a resident of Buffalo Grove for most of my life since 1959, I am glad to hear that the proposed development of the golf course has been shelved. I hope it stays shelved.
First, a downtown area cannot be invented. That was attempted at Town Center many years ago and did not succeed. In my opinion, downtown areas occur naturally when populations are concentrated in places near such things as railroad tracks. Look at Arlington Heights and Mount Prospect for example.
Second, I believe this project would have negatively impacted Buffalo Grove in many ways — more unnecessary retail space (focus on filling the retail space that already exists in the village) as well as increased traffic, loss of green space and potential increase of flooding in that area, to name a few.
Future development of any area in Buffalo Grove needs to be carefully considered.
