Learn how to prevent a heart attack at February programs

Cardiologists on staff at Advocate Sherman Hospital will discuss how to prevent a heart attack during two programs in February during American Heart Month.

Dr. Vineet Dandekar will host a program from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, and Dr. Harshal Sheth will host a program from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26. Both events will take place in the fourth-floor Medical Office Building Conference Room at the hospital, 1425 N. Randall Road in Elgin.

During the free programs, Dandekar and Sheth will discuss signs, symptoms, risk factors and prevention of heart attacks, as well as the importance of knowing your numbers, such as cholesterol, blood pressure and glucose levels. Light refreshments also will be served.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of the death in the U.S., and research shows that a lack of commitment to a heart-healthy lifestyle is a contributing factor to that statistic.
