Former "Jersey Boy" travels from "Broadway to Obscurity" this Valentine's Day at ECC

The Elgin Community College Arts Center will travel "From Broadway to Obscurity" when former Broadway "Jersey Boy" Eric Gutman performs his hilarious and revealing musical confessional at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Building H Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

"From Broadway to Obscurity" tells the story of how Gutman, at the peak of his career playing several roles in the Tony and Grammy-winning smash hit "Jersey Boys" on Broadway, made the decision to return to his hometown of Detroit so that he could raise his two young daughters closer to his family.

Through well-known songs, dead-on celebrity impressions, and a heartwarming narrative, Gutman takes the audience on his journey from Broadway star to suburban dad. "From Broadway to Obscurity" is presented by Artists Lounge Live, a dynamic concert series curated by former "Jersey Boy" and current "Under the Streetlamp" performer Michael Ingersoll.

Before his move back home, Gutman spent three years performing with "Jersey Boys." In his run with this extraordinary show, he performed over 1,100 shows in six different roles (including three of the four seasons). Gutman has also been a company member for over 10 years with the off-Broadway and touring companies of Forbidden Broadway and Forbidden Hollywood for which he has played in over 100 different theatres across the country.

Tickets for the performance are $25. A three-course, Valentine's Day-themed, preshow dinner prepared by ECC's award-winning Culinary Arts and Hospitality program can be purchased for an additional $29. The menu includes fire roasted tomato bisque, sliced beef with marchand du vin accompanied by dauphinois potatoes and a fresh vegetable, and mocha creme brulee. Dinners must be ordered on or before Monday, Feb. 9.
