Journalist Bill Kurtis presents "Death by Food" at ECC

Award-winning investigative journalist Bill Kurtis will give a presentation at Elgin Community College on Monday, March 16 about the effects of the American diet.

His presentation, "Death by Food: How the American Diet is Killing You," will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Building E University and Business Center Seigle Auditorium on ECC's Spartan Drive campus, 1700 Spartan Drive.

Kurtis will analyze the reasons the American diet is so high in fat, sugar and salts, the connection between processed foods and rising health problems, and offers a means of optimal nutrition as a solution to the nutrient-depleted foods found on the tables of American consumers.

He argues that natural, sustainable, minimally-processed foods hold the key to combating the skyrocketing obesity and diabetes rates in the country and explains how consumers can make more informed food choices to achieve better health.

An acclaimed documentary host and producer, network news anchor, multimedia production company president, author and grass-fed-cattle rancher, Kurtis has been in broadcasting for more than 40 years. With a body of work ranging from providing the satirical narration for "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" to his book, "The Death Penalty on Trial: Crisis in American Justice," Kurtis is the recipient of numerous awards, including Emmys, CableACE Awards and the Thurgood Marshall Award.

A meet-and-greet reception will immediately follow his presentation. The ECC Bookstore also will be selling copies of Kurtis' "The Prairie Table Cookbook" during the reception.

Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased by visiting elgin.edu/ce and entering course code CED 950 to register and pay. For more information, contact the Continuing Education Department at (847) 622-3036.
