Barrington Park District, Development Council Invite Community to Feb. 11 LifeSource Blood Drive

The Barrington Park District and the Barrington Area Development Council will again team to host a LifeSource blood drive from 8 a.m.- 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the Barrington Park District Fitness and Recreation Center, 235 Lions Drive, Barrington.

This is the second year that the two groups have worked together to host a community blood drive in the Barrington area. LifeSource estimates that their combined efforts has helped to support the lives of approximately 350 patients.

While necessary year-round, blood drives held in the winter months are extremely helpful to the Chicagoland blood supplier. Bitter cold earlier this month, along with a spike in flu cases, LifeSource says, has affected the area's blood supply. Community drives like these help to replenish the supply to Chicagoland hospitals.

According to LifeSource, each unit of blood collected at these community drives helps to support up to three lives.

"We're pleased to again bring together Barrington's recreation and business functions for this vital, civic cause," says Jack T. Schaefer, president of the Barrington Area Development Council. "We're grateful to our Barrington Park District partner for hosting the blood drive at its fitness and recreation center facility."

Donation appointments at any of LifeSource's 19 community donor centers-and four fixed sites-are preferred, he adds, but all walk-ins are always welcome. Donors can schedule their appointment by calling LifeSource at (877) 543-3768 or visiting www.lifesource.org, and using the sponsor code 281D.

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (or 16 years old with parental consent).

In preparation for their donation, donors are asked to eat well, stay hydrated and arrive with proper identification.

Participating donors will be entered in a random drawing for a chance to win AMC gift cards. Each donor will also receive a LifeSource t-shirt. Donors can schedule their appointment by calling LifeSource at (877) 543-3768 or visiting www.lifesource.org.
