Ex-McLean County deputy facing embezzlement charges
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) - A former McLean County sheriff's deputy accused of embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from a union he belonged to is facing felony theft charges.
Jay Hobson was indicted Wednesday on two counts of theft over $100,000. He's accused of stealing money from the McLean County Deputies Fraternal Order of Police No. 176 between November 2011 and July 2014.
The (Bloomington) Pantagraph (http://bit.ly/15jxK1y ) reports Hobson was treasurer of the union organization and resigned last August after the union discovered its bank account had been depleted. The money that was stolen was intended for charity efforts.
Hobson was arrested late Wednesday after turning himself in. He was released from jail after posting bond Thursday night.
Hobson is scheduled to appear in court early next month. A message seeking comment was left with his attorney early Friday morning.
