Vegas officer arrested for battery, robbery, assault attempt

LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Las Vegas police detective who works in the gang and narcotics unit has been arrested on charges of battery, robbery and attempted sexual assault.

Police said Friday they arrested 35-year-old Michael Kitchen after responding to a call the day before at a woman's home about 4 miles east of the Las Vegas Strip.

The woman told officers that Kitchen had assaulted her in an effort to get his money back after agreeing to pay for sex.

Police say the woman was treated and released at a local hospital.

Kitchen began his career with the department in September 1999.

Police say he'll be placed on leave without pay while the criminal investigation is ongoing.
