Fans throw rocks at police, get tear-gassed at African Cup

BATA, Equatorial Guinea (AP) - Witnesses say fans threw rocks at police, who responded by firing tear gas outside the African Cup of Nations game between host Equatorial Guinea and Burkina Faso on Wednesday.

Hundreds of fans were involved, the witnesses say. Fans said the clashes happened around the time the Equatorial Guinea-Burkina Faso game was kicking off and while supporters were trying to get into the game to watch the home team play at Bata Stadium.

There is only one entrance to the Bata Stadium complex and fans crowded there. Some supporters reportedly didn't have tickets for the match.

Fans have become frustrated with delays getting into the stadium at other venues at the African Cup. Riot police and fans also scuffled before the first games in the city of Ebebiyin on Sunday.
