Girls basketball: Week 7 MVPs

Lake Park senior guard Emily Duckhorn has earned Daily Herald girls basketball MVP honors for her recent performances.

Emily Duckhorn, Lake Park: The senior guard had a hot hand all week, hitting six 3-pointers and scoring 25 points in a nonconference victory Saturday against Carmel, adding 4 rebounds. Against East Aurora on Tuesday, Duckhorn scored 19 points, hitting 4 more 3-point shots, grabbing 3 rebounds and dishing 4 assists in an Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division game.

Kaitlin Brohan, Bartlett: The Hawks' 5-foot-9 junior had a steady week in helping her team to three wins. In a 43-33 victory over Streamwood she scored 11 points with 4 rebounds and 4 assists. In a 69-45 win over West Aurora she had 23 points, including shooting 8-for-8 on 2-pointers, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals. Then, in a 59-45 win against Elk Grove she had 21 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and was 13-for-14 at the free throw line.

Gabby Galbato, Aurora Christian: Galbato started her week with 22 points and 10 rebounds against Marian Central Catholic, had 9 points and 7 rebounds in a hard-fought loss to Montini, scored 22 points in a 50-45 win over Kaneland and poured in 25 points in a 64-42 victory over Plano that improved the Lady Eagles to 14-6.

Carly McCameron, Antioch: The "big" played big. A 6-foot senior, she helped the Sequoits go 4-0 in Lake Forest's MLK tournament, as she posted double-doubles in three games. Her career-high 19 points and 12 rebounds led the way in a 63-58 win over Buffalo Grove. She also blocked 2 shots in each game.

Kelly Weyhrich, Hersey: The 5-foot-2 sophomore guard ran the show in key back-to-back wins. Weyhrich scored a career-high 15 points with 8 assists in a 61-45 victory at Wheeling, then helped steer the offense (4 assists, 3 steals, two 3-pointers) in a 48-37 triumph at Glenbrook South, which entered the game at 17-2.
