Two men found guilty - again - for North Chicago murder

Two North Chicago men were convicted of murder Tuesday for a second time in the fatal shooting of a woman and injuring of two men in a hail of gunfire in 2007.

Jurors found William Fillyaw, 37, and Johnny Parker, 31, guilty of first-degree murder for killing Lasondra Shaw, 28, during a home invasion at a North Chicago apartment building.

Fillyaw and Parker each face 20 to 60 years in prison on the murder convictions, and another six to 30 years for attempted murder convictions stemming from the shooting of the two men.

They are due back in court Feb. 19 for status hearings.

The pair initially was found guilty of the same charges in 2009, but a state appeals court overturned the convictions two years later, citing trial errors.

Fillyaw and Parker were retried this month through a rare double-jury trial, during which evidence was presented simultaneously to two separate juries, one for each defendant.

The first jury returned a guilty verdict for Fillyaw at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The second jury handed down Parker's guilty verdict about three hours later.

Authorities said Fillyaw and Parker kicked open Shaw's 13th Street apartment door on June 29, 2007 and began shooting with a shotgun and pistol. Shaw was fatally shot in the back of the neck during the attack, authorities said.

The two men recovered from their wounds, authorities said.

Fillyaw and Parker previously were sentenced to 55 years for Shaw's murder, then consecutive 20-year sentences for the attempted murder convictions.
