Lincolnshire chief hosts Coffee with a Cop

Lincolnshire residents had a chance to chat up Police Chief Peter Kinsey about laws and legal issues.

Kinsey sees Wednesday's Coffee with a Cop event at the Vernon Area Public Library in Lincolnshire as an informal atmosphere for citizens to interact with police and ask questions.

"Generally, the only contact they have with police is when they are being stopped at a traffic violation," Kinsey said. "That's a negative context, so we wanted to give them a positive atmosphere for exchanging information."

Some of the issues that came up during the session were the state's conceal and carry laws, medical marijuana and general traffic violation-related questions.

This is the first time the Lincolnshire Police Department has hosted the event, but Kinsey hopes Coffee with a Cop will become a monthly session and foresees it happening in various locations in the village.
