Quincy's former library to become a history museum

QUINCY, Ill. (AP) - The former public library building in Quincy, Illinois soon will be the Mississippi River city's new history museum.

The Quincy Herald-Whig (http://bit.ly/1ujjlyO) reports the Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County on Friday will announce plans to return to public use the building closed since March 2012.

The society has launched a $50,000 fundraising effort titled "Making History Happen: Opening the Doors to One of Our Most Beloved Treasures."

The society's executive director, Beth House Lane, says an anonymous donor has offered to match the first $25,000 donated.

The building dates to 1888, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was Quincy's library until 1974.
