Attic fire damages Lombard home

An attic fire caused more than $50,000 damage to a Lombard home Monday afternoon, officials said Tuesday.

Firefighters responded to a report of a residential structure fire on the 500 block of South Lodge Lane around 1 p.m., according to a news release.

The call came from the homeowner, who reported a possible fire inside the wall on the second floor of the house. All the occupants safely evacuated on their own.

Acting Battalion Chief Brian Stuart said smoke was coming from the roof when firefighters arrived. A working attic fire was then discovered by crews on the south end of the home.

Stuart said the fire likely started in an area where some plumbing work was occurring and extended into the home's attic. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Villa Park Fire Department and Addison, Carol Stream and York Center Fire Protection districts helped with the fire.
