Mason hires Cortez Hankton, fills out Vandy coaching staff

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason has hired Cortez Hankton as wide receivers coach, filling out his coaching staff.

Mason announced the hire Monday.

Hankton has spent the past three seasons coaching wide receivers at Dartmouth where the Big Green went 20-10 during his tenure after starting his coaching career with three months as a volunteer assistant at Central Florida.

He also played six seasons in the NFL after being undrafted out of Texas Southern in 2003 with Jacksonville, Minnesota and Tampa Bay. He also spent a couple of years in the UFL.

Mason, who went 3-9 in his debut season, already hired a new offensive coordinator in Andy Ludwig, cornerbacks coach Todd Lyght and a strength coach in James Dobson this offseason.
