Cook jumping to it at Lewis

Amber Cook was a four-year varsity letter winner for Warren High School's track and field team.

Her specialty was the triple jump, in which she was a three-time North Suburban Conference champion.

You could say she has successfully made the jump to the collegiate level.

The Lewis College junior recently scored a victory and NCAA provisional mark with a leap of 11.59m (38 feet, ¼ inch) at the Flyers' own women's track and field team to the Illiana Invitational title.

Cook defeated teammate Keanu Taylor, who was second in the event with a jump of 11.24m (36-10½).

The Flyers won the invite held at their Student Recreation and Fitness Center Fieldhouse this past Friday.

"It was another great meet for a lot of the team," Lewis head women's track and field coach Dana Schwarting said on the school's website. "We looked good in a few more events - specifically the jumps - and we're continuing to make strides on the track.

"Now that we've been back from break for two weeks, we will start expecting even bigger things with each new meet."

In high school, Cook received the North Suburban Conference Sportsmanship Award as a senior. She broke her own school-record in the triple jump three times with a final mark of 37-1.

Cook helped Warren to four straight conference and division championships.

Lewis senior Amy Polhemus (Lake Zurich) was first in the 600-meter run (1:38.66).

Polhemus was a two-time state qualifier at Lake Zurich in the 300-meter hurdles and as a member of the 4x200 relay team.

She set the school-record in the 300-meter hurdles as a senior (44.94) and placed eighth in state in the 300-meter hurdles as a senior.

Polhemus helped Lake Zurich to a pair of county championships and a conference title in 2011.

Lewis senior Roslyn Summerville (Wauconda) finished first in the weight throw title with a toss of 16.24m (53-3½).

Summerville was a four-year varsity letter winner in track and field at Wauconda and three-year varsity tennis and basketball player.

The three-time MVP Field athlete for Wauconda was a two-time all-conference selection in shot put. She was all-conference in the discus as a senior when she set the school record in the shot put (37-10½) en route to a sectional championship.

Augustana sophomore guard Olivia Mayer (Libertyville) leads the league in assists with 70.

Men's track

Lewis University juniors Isaac Jean-Paul (Warren) set an NCAA Provisional mark and won the high jump title with a leap of 2.14m (7-¼) as the Flyers won their own Illiana Invitational title.
