Books give way to miniature golf at Glen Ellyn library

Those looking to channel their inner Tiger Woods will get the perfect opportunity Friday when Glen Ellyn Public Library sponsors its Swinging Thru the Stacks event.

The fifth annual tournament will give people of all ages the chance to play 18 holes of miniature golf set strategically between the book shelves across two floors of the library.

The library will close at 3 p.m. Friday to give organizers time to set up the course. The first players can tee off - or whatever it is miniature golfers do - an hour later. The event ends at 8 p.m.

The cost is $5 per person, with all proceeds going toward special projects at the library.

The four players ages 13 and older with the best scores will each receive a gift card to Fire + Wine, 433 N. Main St., in Glen Ellyn.

The four youngsters with the best scores will each get a gift card to Meatheads, 549 Roosevelt Road in Glen Ellyn. All gift cards were donated, Marketing Coordinator Stephanie Blackwell said.

"You don't really see miniature golf courses set up inside a library," Blackwell said. "And it's just a fun, challenging course."
