Northeastern Indiana dog to receive protective vest

NEW HAVEN, Ind. (AP) - A police dog in northeastern Indiana is going to receive a vest that will help protect it from being shot or stabbed while on duty.

WANE-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1596lQh ) a New Haven Police Department dog trained in narcotics detection named Henry will receive the protective vest after his handler, Jon Wenzel, applied for a grant through a dentist's office out of Massachusetts.

A non-profit organization from Massachusetts, Vested Interest in K9s Inc., helps set up fundraisers at different places to raise the funds for K-9 vests.

Wenzel says police dogs are placed in a lot of dangerous situations and it's important they be protected as much as possible.

Henry should receive his vest sometime in the spring.
