This is a Great Horned Owl at the Morton Arboretum. I love going to the arboretum in the winter. Besides the beauty of snow covered trees, it usually the best time to see raptors in trees. It's kind of hard to hide with no leaves for cover. Bonnie Graham, of Lombard
Who said Oil & Water don't mix? On a cold winter day I mixed cooking oil with water in a flat glass pan which was raised up on soup cans. I placed different colored paper below the pan. I used a Macro Lens and manually focused on the bubbles to get this different kind of shot. The "Flare" was not photoshopped, it was a refection off my dining room light fixture bulbs which gave the photo a bit of a punch. I used a tripod and selected mirror lock up, and used a 10 sec timer to eliminate camera shake. Photo taken using Camera RAW format and "developed" in Photoshop Elements. Randy Link, of Winfield
I photographed an ice crystal on the taillight of my car. The taillight consists of red, white, and gray colors. However, the flash on the camera made the gray appear to be more blue. This gave the crystal a patriotic background. Angela Cichosz, of Carol Stream
On a cold December day, flamingos were all grouped together keeping warm in the sun at Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. One flamingo keeps a watchful eye out. Jeanne Garrett of Arlington Heights
South Haven light house is covered in a winter coat in Michigan on January 9. Mark Farrahar of Palatine
