Woodwind quintet to give preview of Norris concert series

The woodwind quintet Fox Five will provide a "sneak preview" of the Norris Cultural Arts Center's new "Music in the Gallery" concert series, when it performs an eclectic program of classics and standards at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, in the Norris gallery.

Fox Five is a professional, classically trained ensemble featuring flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and French horn. All five members perform in Chicago-area orchestras and concert bands.

General admission tickets, "sneak preview" priced at $10, or $5 for children under age 12, are available at norrisculturalarts.com and by stopping by the Norris box office in person, calling (630) 584-7200 or on the day of the concert.

Tickets for subsequent "Music in the Gallery" concerts will be priced at $15, or $10 for children under age 12.

The Norris will announce its full season of "Music in the Gallery" concerts after the Fox Five performance. The series will include jazz, folk, bluegrass and classical music performers.

All "Music in the Gallery" concerts will be presented at 3 p.m. Sundays in the art gallery of the Norris Cultural Arts Center, 1040 Dunham Road in St. Charles.

"We believe many cultural arts patrons are seeking an authentic, intimate musical experience that can't be found in a concert hall," said James L. Collins, Norris Cultural Arts Center president. "With a maximum of 150 seats, our gallery concerts will appeal to music lovers of all ages who want to enjoy an up-close and personal musical experience."

After the Fox Five performance, concert attendees are invited to a reception featuring complimentary beverages and other refreshments. Attendees also may enjoy viewing the gallery's "Whimsy Encore" exhibit, featuring nearly 100 art and objects of fancy and fantasy.

The 97-piece exhibit will be on display at The Norris gallery through Feb. 28. The exhibit is a sequel to the gallery's original "Whimsy" show that was a highlight of the 2011-12 Norris gallery season. The public is invited to view the exhibit during the gallery's regular hours, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. Admission is free. Most pieces exhibited in "Whimsy Encore" are available for sale. A free reception honoring the artists of "Whimsy Encore" is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8.
