Browns, wide receivers coach McDaniel part ways

BEREA, Ohio (AP) - Mike McDaniel will not return to the Cleveland Browns next season as wide receivers coach.

Browns officials said Wednesday that McDaniel and the team mutually parted ways.

The move comes after offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan resigned last week. Quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains is also not returning, though the team hasn't characterized the details of his departure.

McDaniel joined the Browns last year, a few days after Shanahan was hired. Before his season with the Browns, McDaniel spent three seasons with Shanahan in Washington, as an offensive assistant for two seasons and wide receivers coach in 2013.

The Browns struggled with its offense this season, finishing 7-9 and losing their last five games.

The wide receiving unit was without Josh Gordon for the first 10 games of the season while he served a drug suspension. Gordon led the league with 1,646 yards receiving in 2013.
