Local athletes to represent U.S. in Junior World Championships

Two athletes who are members of Norge Ski Club in Fox River Grove have been selected by the U.S. Ski Jumping Team to represent the United States in the Junior World Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

A.J. Brown of Fox River Grove and former Wauconda resident Kevin Bickner will head to Almaty, where the Nordic Junior World Championships will be held Feb. 2-8. Both are members of the U.S. Ski Jumping Team and train in Park City, Utah.

Elite Nordic men and women competitors from around the world will converge along with athletes from the U.S. to test their skills at a facility that is 12 time zones from Chicago. The U.S. Ski Jumping Team will take four athletes. They will compete in Individual and Team events on the 106-meter (350 foot) jumping hill.

Brown will be competing in the upcoming Norge International Tournament Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 24 and 25, at Norge Ski Club, 100 Ski Hill Road, Fox River Grove, along with four other U.S. Ski Team members on their third stop of five international competitions held in the Midwest.

Bickner will not be in attendance as he competes in Japan and Europe for the next two weeks.
