DePaul extends Bruno's coaching contract
DePaul University women's basketball coach Doug Bruno has signed a contract extension through the 2019-20 season, school officials announced Wednesday.
Bruno, who is in his 29th season at DePaul, has compiled a 572-306 record that includes 12 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
"Doug's accomplishments in and around Chicago and the country are legendary," said Jean Lenti Ponsetto, DePaul's director of athletics. "Doug is one of those iconic names in the sport having had tremendous success as a collegiate coach at DePaul, in the first women's professional league (with the Chicago Hustle) and internationally with our USA Women's National Team."
Bruno's 572 collegiate victories ranks 19th among active Division I coaches.
"I owe everything I have ever achieved to my coaches - my high school coach Dick Flaiz and DePaul coaches: Ray Meyer, Frank McGrath, Joey Meyer, Ken Sarubbi, Dan Pierce, Ed Collins and Dr. Patricia Ewers as well as Loyola's Gene Sullivan," Bruno said of his extension.
"Very few coaches are blessed to coach at their alma mater, and even fewer coaches are blessed to coach at an institution as great as DePaul University. I am blessed."
