State senators to bus to Rosie for former senator's funeral

ROSIE, Ark. (AP) - A group of state senators plan to bus to north Arkansas for the funeral of former Sen. David Wyatt.

Wyatt, a Democrat, died Monday at age 65. He had been undergoing cancer treatment after being diagnosed with cancer several weeks ago.

Wyatt served in the Senate from 2009 until earlier this month. He did not seek re-election in 2014. He also served in the state House of Representatives from 2005-09 and as Independence County judge for 20 years.

Republican Sen. David Sanders told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (http://bit.ly/1KJdwPU ) that the Senate's memorial fund that senators contribute to each year will pay about $785 for a bus to travel to Rosie, near Batesville, for Wednesday's funeral.

Senate secretary Ann Cornwell said it wasn't clear how many senators would make the trip.
