Harper seeks volunteers for free ultrasound

Harper College's Diagnostic Medical Sonography programs are seeking volunteers interested in receiving a free ultrasound starting Monday, Feb. 9, and running through Thursday, April 23.

Available ultrasounds include carotid artery (participants must be at least 50 years old), arteries or veins of the legs and echocardiograms of the heart.

Beginning Tuesday, March 3, obstetric ultrasounds will be available (participants must be at least 18 weeks pregnant and have already had a previous ultrasound with their doctor; they will receive a copy of the images).

All participants must be at least 18 years old. Exams will be performed by students on state-of-the-art equipment, under the supervision of a registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.

The free tests, lasting about an hour each, are non-diagnostic. Volunteers will not receive a medical report, but may be instructed to follow up with their physician.

Harper's Diagnostic Medical and Cardiac Sonography programs conform to all patient safety regulations. Appointments are required and fill up quickly. Contact Karen in the Harper College Diagnostics Imaging Lab at (847) 925-6104.
