Round Lake Area Exchange Club names January 'Hometown Hero'

The Round Lake Area Exchange Club has announced its January "Hometown Hero" is Army Cpl. Corbin Hill, a 20-year resident of Round Lake Beach.

Hill, a 2010 graduate from Warren Township High School, was registered for this honor by his mother, Cindy, also of Round Lake Beach.

Some of the honors bestowed on Hill are expert medal in shooting, meritorious service while assigned to funeral detail, outstanding achievement of a distinguished qualifying score on Gunnery Table-VI during the Abrams NETT Gunnery, medal of achievement for outstanding performance while serving as a driver for C13 during Tank Table VI, and commanders coin for Bandido marksman.

With the support of this month's sponsor, Judy Armstrong, Hill's "Hanging with the Heroes" care package will be filled with Skittles, chips and snacks. Also included is a personalized "Hanging with the Heroes" T-shirt donated by Artrageous of Hainesville, letters from Round Lake Area Unit District 116 students, a specially made rosary for the military from Legion of Mary from St. Joseph's in Round Lake and a piece of home.

The Round Lake Area Exchange Club will present a plaque to his family Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 7:30 a.m. Panera Bread in Round Lake Beach.

The Round Lake Area Exchange Club needs the community's help in signing up local heroes. Any and all military personnel serving overseas or in the U.S. from any of the Round Lake-area communities, Hainesville, Fox Lake, Ingleside or surrounding areas, qualify for the program.
