FAFSA workshop Jan. 17 at Maine East

A Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) workshop will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Maine East High School, 2601 Dempster St., Park Ridge.

"When families think of college these days, debt is often one of the first thoughts that comes to mind," said state Rep. Marty Moylan. The workshop is being conducted by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission.

Any student looking to apply for federal student aid must complete the FAFSA. Additionally, Illinois offers its own state level grant, the Monetary Award Program (MAP) Grant, and receipt of this grant is contingent upon completing the FAFSA.

Attendees should bring social security numbers, records of income such as tax returns, information about assets such as savings accounts, stock options, investment real estate, and other assets, driver's license numbers, and month and year of marriages, separations and divorces.

"Some of the funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is important that the forms are completed accurately the first time," Moylan said.

For more information, contact Moylan's office at (847) 635-6821 or by email at staterepmoylan@gmail.com.
