Doctor and author to speak at chapel service

Dr. Lina AbuJamra, a Chicago-based pediatric emergency room doctor, blogger, conference speaker and author, will be the guest speaker during Judson University's chapel service at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, in Herrick Chapel, 1151 N. State St., Route 31, Elgin. All chapel services are free and open to the public.

Dr. AbuJamra, who is originally from West Beirut, Lebanon, champions the causes of singleness and Christianity whenever she gets the opportunity to do so, and that often comes in the form of book writing, speaking engagements, and blogging.

She has written numerous books, including: "Thrive: The Single Life That God Intended," "Stripped: When God's Call Turns From Yes to Why Me?" "Singles Guide to Thriving: 500 Ways to Impact Your World," "Transformed by Grace," "Free Falling," "Reflections," and "Luke Series: Leader's Guide."

She also hosts audio/video Bible studies; leads the nonprofit organization Living With Power Ministries; heads an Arabic podcast in English and Arabic on iTunes; and directs the website livingwithpower.org.

Yet, her ministry continues to expand in many directions. "I have always wanted to do global justice/compassion work. Though I've done many, many medical mission trips, it wasn't what I believed God had for the ministry," says Dr. AbuJamra. "In the last six months to a year the Lord is intersecting all my interests and passions into more and more work in the Middle East. We launched Operation Give Power to the Powerless only a few months ago.

"Currently, I'm building a widening circle of relationships and networking. I've taken multiple trips to the Middle East for vision casting. My next trip is to my home country where I grew up: Lebanon. My focus is primarily on providing relief and hope to Syrian refugees, with an interest in the smaller number of Iraqi refugees. I am also hoping to continue providing Arabic Bible study resources to the Christian Arabic-speaking community."
