Spellman: Parise says it's important to get back

Minnesota's Zach Parise returned to the lineup Saturday afternoon against Nashville and will face the Blackhawks tonight after missing two games to spend time with his father, former NHL player J.P. Parise, who passed away Wednesday.

"I think (Thursday) night, just watching the game, and finally my wife told me you have to go to the rink and practice and get away and try and get back into the groove of things," Parise told reporters after practice Friday.

"You could sit at home and sulk, but I know my dad probably would've been mad at me for skipping the San Jose game and he probably would've been mad at me for not playing (against the Hawks), too. So it was important for me to get back."

Parise, the Wild's second leading scorer with 30 points, saw just over 23 minutes of ice time in the Wild's 3-1 loss to the Predators.

Five is enough:

The NHL announced the rest of the All-Star Game roster Saturday and not surprisingly, no more Blackhawks were added.

So the fivesome of Hawks participating in Columbus in two weeks will be Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Corey Crawford, Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook.

Shots for everyone:

The Hawks came into their last two games leading the league with an average of 35 shots per game.

Against Minnesota and Edmonton they combined for 41 shots.

Cause for concern?

"We had a bunch of shots against Colorado (54 in a 2-0 loss), so I'm not worried about that," Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said.

On a roll:

With his 2 goals Friday night in Edmonton, Hawks forward Brandon Saad has scored 4 goals in his last five games.

"It's been going pretty good; I've been playing pretty well," Saad said after the Hawks' 5-2 loss to the Oilers. "I've been feeling pretty good about my game."

He said it:

"You play to win that game and that's what it's all about. I think every coach in our league is pretty comparable as far as the intensity and emotion that goes into every game."
