Highland Park took top honors in the eight-team invitational hosted by Elk Grove on Saturday, finishing with 375 points to better Cary-Grove (344), Hoffman Estates (312) and the host Grenadiers (240).

Cary-Grove junior Cooper Langanis took top honors in the 200-yard free (1:46.75) and 500 free (4:56.38).

Elk Grove senior Colin Williams won the 100 fly (53.27) and placed second in the 200 free (1:47.43).

Hoffman Estates had the top finishers in both the 'fastest' and 'fast' heats of the 50 free. Joe Smiley won the 'fast' in 22.79 and Bartosz Widelak won the 'fastest' in 22.57.

Smiley also had the top time in the 100 free, winning in 50.23.

In the 100 back, Cary-Grove's Nick Jasinski (56.51) and Hoffman Estates' Jacob Pasaye (58.02) placed 1-2.

Evanston Invitational: In a field loaded with quality teams, Glenbrook South took top team honors ahead of New Trier as standout senior sprinters Jon Salomon won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.24.

Palatine's best finishes came from sophomore Alex Bartosik, who placed sixth in the 200 IM (2:02.16) and seventh in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.93).

New Trier's Murphy McQuet edged Salomon by a couple of tenths in the 100 free, winning in 47.09.

Other impressive winning efforts came from Glenbrook South's Sam Iida in the 500 free (4:40.54) and 200 IM (1:55.79).

Leyden freshman invitational: Rolling Meadows claimed a second team title this season at Leyden, this time in the all-freshman invite hosted by the Eagles. The Mustangs earlier won the varsity invitational hosted by Leyden.

Rolling Meadows finished with 245 points, outdistancing York (185) and Downers Grove North (172).

Like most teams, Meadows has a wide range of talent in its freshman class, with everything from impact varsity performers to those just getting their feet wet. Coach Monika Chiappetta was thrilled to see all of them band together toward a common goal.

"You have to work together in a meet like this," she said. "That was so cool to see. I was telling our boys, 'This is your group - you'll walk through these next three years with each other.' "

Freshman Josh Dellorto provided winning relays legs; Jake Pors contributed an eye-opening 4:08 in the 400-yard free which was well ahead of his lifetime-best 500 pace; Rob Bringham had bests in the 50 and 100 free, and Andrew Tavares and Nate Pardini also played key roles in the victory.
