Road closures lifted after water main break in downtown Arlington Hts.

Crews have reopened part of Sigwalt Street in downtown Arlington Heights after a water main burst Friday night, flooding a shopping center parking lot and freezing into sheets of ice.

By Saturday, traffic was allowed back onto Sigwalt between Dunton and Vail Avenue. Sidewalk barricades are still blocking access to pedestrians near the area, police said.

A 10-inch water main pipe burst at the northwest corner of Sigwalt and Dunton Avenue about 6:30 p.m. Friday, police said.

Water started flowing north along Dunton Avenue and then, following the grade of the street, flooded the parking lot of the Evergreen Center shopping center before flowing out onto Evergreen Street.
