Maine West ekes out another CSL North win

Maine West's girls basketball team improved to 4-1 in the Central Suburban North with a 42-38 victory over visiting Maine East on Friday night in Des Plaines.

Junior Kayla Pociejewski, freshman Catherine Johnson and freshman Jessica Riedl each scored 8 points while freshman Allison Pearson added 6 for the Warriors, who received 3-point baskets from junior Jordan Hart and Johnson.

Riedl led West (5-11) on the boards with 6 rebounds while Pociejewski and Johnson each had 5.

Thursday's results: Wheeling improved to 14-4 with a 52-37 nonconference victory at Lake Zurich.

With a game-high 18 points, Wheeling senior Deanna Kuzmanic now has 1,502 career points, second only to Ashley Wilson (1,916) in school history.

Senior Hailey Dammeier added 10 points for the Wildcats and classmate Hannah Dobrowski had 9.

Kuzmanic had a pair of 3-pointers while Dammeier, Dobrowski and sophomore Coco Yoshino each had one.
