Rolling Meadows man charged with sexually abusing girl
A Cook County judge set bail at $350,000 Friday for a 63-year-old Rolling Meadows man who prosecutors say abused a girl over a two-year period beginning when she was about 11.
Additionally, Judge Joseph Cataldo ordered Grant Gilhett have no contact with the girl, now a teenager. Prosecutors say the abuse took place between February 2007 and February 2009.
If convicted of predatory criminal sexual abuse, a class X felony, Gilhett could face up to 30 years in prison.
The girl made a "delayed outcry" to her mother and a school social worker in early November after observing pornographic images on the defendant's computer, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney David Shin.
"It disturbed her," Shin said, adding that Gilhett does not face pornography charges.
Authorities say Gilhett, who has no criminal background, left the state and was located by police late last month.
He next appears in court on Jan. 30.
