Ex-Indiana inspector general to probe South Bend case

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - A special prosecutor is taking over an investigation into allegations that a South Bend city employee worked at the home of the mayor's chief of staff at taxpayer expense.

The South Bend Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1xxL1Oj ) former state Inspector General David Thomas was named Wednesday to serve as the special prosecutor in the case involving Chief of Staff Kathryn Roos. Thomas also served three terms as the prosecutor of western Indiana's Clay County.

Indiana State Police submitted their investigation report to the St. Joseph County prosecutor's office in early December. The investigation began in September following photographs that an administration critic says shows city employees working on Roos' patio.

Roos has denied any wrongdoing.
