Wheeling police issue 200-plus citations over holidays

Wheeling police charged one driver with drunken driving and issued more than 200 citations in a traffic enforcement campaign over the holidays, authorities said Wednesday. Patrols devoted extra attention to late-night hours, when the highest number of motorists drink and drive and the fewest motorists buckle up, according to a Wheeling police news release. Police also charged four people with driving on a suspended license and two with driving without a license. In addition, 82 safety belt citations, 38 cellphone citations and 95 other citations were written over the two weeks. The statewide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Click It or Ticket" campaigns were funded by federal grants.
