Norge readies for International Ski-Jump Tournament

Norge Ski Club in Fox River Grove is prepping its hills and massive 150-foot high tower for its 110th annual Ski Jumping tournament and has been doing so every winter since its founding on the shores of the Fox River in 1905.

Snow guns are blasting a cloud of white into the air as the frozen precipitation gently coats one Norge's five hills that must be covered with just the right amount of snow for safe landings. Mother Nature has not been much of an assist so far this year.

Once ready, the Large Hill (called a K70 by skiers) will be ready for the three international teams that will be descend upon its slopes. Team Norway is always a favorite as Norge's namesake, but teams from Finland and Slovenia will also be battling for cash prizes.

Don't count out Team USA! The Americans will attempt to defend their honor as Norge expects several U.S. Team members to be present as well. Those competitors will be accompanied by field of over 50 skiers from the United States and Canada who will be soaring up to 250 feet over the big 70-meter hill Saturday, Jan. 24, and Sunday, Jan. 25.

Food and refreshment will be available. Visit www.norgeskiclub.com for details.
