Fox Valley Jewish School makes blankets for veterans

Three very special blankets are now available for patients to use at Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Administration Hospital.

Students at Fox Valley Jewish School in Geneva contributed to the creation of these blankets as each child decorated an 8-inch muslin square. They used fabric markers to render their colorful images of support and care.

Fox Valley Jewish School art teacher Ruth Silverman was able to sew the muslin squares into three blankets, combining the squares with other fabric.

Silverman brought the finished blankets to the Fox Valley Jewish Neighbors Hanukkah Party in December, where the children and families got to see the results of their efforts before they were donated.

All the prekindergarten through eighth-grade students who worked on these blankets hope they help to comfort and keep patients warm at the VA Hospital.

Fox Valley Jewish School is part of Fox Valley Jewish Neighbors, a Jewish community group serving Jewish and interfaith families and individuals in the Tri-Cities and beyond. For more information, visit www.fvjn.org.
